DAP to hold emergency central exco meeting - The Sun Daily

PETALING JAYA (July 30, 2013): DAP will hold an emergency central executive committee (CEC) meeting today following reports that the committee had been invalidated due to a counting error in the last party elections.

Home Minister Datuk Seri Ahmad Zahid Hamidi on Monday night directed DAP to hold a new election after saying the Registrar of Societies (RoS) was dissatisfied with the party's explanation for the counting error in its December 15, 2012 election.

DAP national organising secretary Anthony Loke said the party had yet to receive an official letter from the RoS directing such a move.

However, RoS director-general Datuk Abdul Rahman Othman reportedly confirmed today that DAP would have to hold a re-election for its CEC members.

Loke said the party would not make any move until it received the official letter from the RoS.

"We are awaiting the official letter from the RoS, and will be discussing the issue during the meeting tomorrow," he told theSun today.

In a statement today, DAP secretary-general Lim Guan Eng slammed Ahmad Zahid's order as "pre-emptive and premature".

"This is an act of political vengeance and victimisation because DAP was never informed beforehand, either verbally or in writing, of this directive to hold fresh elections. These events lend suspicion that RoS had clearly pre-judged and made up its mind to fix up the DAP," he charged.

Lim said the party was now being punished for its honesty when it admitted the counting error that led to misallocation of votes to a few candidates.
