Chua more concerned with rebuilding racial harmony - Sin Chew Jit Poh

PAGOH, Aug 9 (Bernama) -- MCA president Datuk Seri Dr Chua Soi Lek today said he was more concerned with rebuilding racial understanding and harmony rather than losing sleep over whether he should defend his post in the party.

"Since the party polls will only be held in December, the issue is still too distant to ponder.

"It is only August now, we are still in the Hari Raya festive mood, an opportune time for us Malaysians to get together and further strengthen racial ties. I think that is more important. We should prioritise rebuilding understanding and unity among us," he told reporters at the hari raya open house hosted by Deputy Prime Minister Tan Sri Muhyiddin Yassin at Kompleks Seri Pekembar here today.

Chua also dismissed an earlier report that he would not be defending his post, stressing, "I did not say I will or will not defend my post as president."

MCA won seven out of the 37 parliamentary seats and 11 out of the 90 stateassembly seats it contested in the 13th general election in May.
